This We Win Wednesday is dedicated to Ghanaian brothers Nana Boateng Osei and Nana Kwadwo Osei, founders of the eco-luxury company “Bohten Eyewear”. The brothers draw inspiration from their Ghanaian roots, and the love of nature; but the primary inspiration comes from their late grandfather Andrew Hanson Osei, who was Ghana’s first land surveyor in the 1960’s.
The brothers make both stunning sunglasses and prescription glasses for all you fashion lovers! The frames of these stylish glasses are made from reclaimed wood sourced from Ghana and other African countries. As most of you know I am a wood lover! Some of the beautiful wood they use are redwood, zebra wood (one of my favorites to work with), ebony wood, rosewood, and bamboo. The glasses are manufactured in their own facility in Canada.
The Osei brothers point out that a big issue Africa faces is the lack of access to UV protection eyewear. “Bohten Eyewear” is focused on providing eye health education. Their goal is to create a zero-waste facility in Africa to promote jobs for young adults and to empower people to dive into entrepreneurship.
A big reason why I love this company is that they have a project called “Impact Of One”. “Bohten Eyewear” have teamed up with “Sightsavers” an organization dedicated to eliminate avoidable blindness with a focus on river blindness that affects developing countries. For every pair of Bohtens' eyewear purchased online, $5 is donated to Sightsavers to support their work in Ghana, Cameroon, and Senegal.
